Residents of Mabwepande, Kinondoni, can feel safer after police swiftly intervened in a violent road robbery that left several people injured and robbed.

The Special Police Unit in Dar es Salaam arrested four suspects who are now under thorough questioning for their alleged involvement in assault, robbery, and public looting.

The incident unfolded on the morning of January 8, 2026, around 8:40 a.m., in the Mwendokasi area. A group of individuals, mostly on motorcycles and some armed with machetes, carried out attacks while moving through the neighborhood with the coffin of Ibrahim Elia, a local resident who had been killed days earlier. Ibrahim’s death on January 2 in Bunju was linked to accusations of involvement in motorcycle theft in nearby Goba.

During the attacks, residents were injured and robbed of mobile phones and cash, causing fear and disruption in the community.

Police responded quickly, firing warning shots into the air to regain control and apprehending some of the perpetrators. Following the arrests, Ibrahim Elia was buried at Mabwepande Cemetery, and normalcy was restored in the area.

Authorities continue to remind citizens of the importance of obeying the law and staying vigilant, assuring the public that anyone found violating the law will face strict action. The police remain committed to protecting residents and ensuring safety in all communities.
