The government, through the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, Coordination, and Persons with Disabilities), has launched the “Ramani Zetu, Sauti Zetu” (Our Maps, Our Voice) project.
The initiative aims to empower citizens in Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, and Pwani regions to better respond to disasters.
Speaking during the launch on January 29, 2026, in Morogoro, Assistant Director of Operations and Disaster Coordination at the Prime Minister’s Office, Colonel Selestine Masalamado, said the project comes at a crucial time when the country is intensifying efforts to prevent and manage natural disasters.
“We need accurate, real-time data, and direct community participation is essential to effectively address natural disasters and their impacts,” Colonel Masalamado said.
He added: “This initiative aligns with the National Development Vision 2050, which aims to build a resilient society capable of using technology to make informed development decisions.”
Mr. Innocent Maholi, Director of OpenMap Development Tanzania (OMDTZ), said the project will strengthen early warning systems and improve disaster preparedness and management through technology and citizen participation in collecting vital local information.
“The government will continue to support efforts for effective disaster management, which is a key step toward sustainable development and building a strong economy for citizens,” Maholi added.
