The Bank of Tanzania (BoT), on behalf of the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, is selling long-term government bonds and short-term Treasury bills, offering Tanzanians and institutions an opportunity to invest in secure government-backed securities.
Long-term government bonds, with maturities exceeding one year, are sold through competitive and non-competitive auctions managed by BoT.
After issuance, these bonds can be traded on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange, providing investors with flexibility to buy and sell.
Investors can purchase bonds through licensed commercial banks, BoT, or authorized stockbrokers regulated by the Capital Markets and Securities Authority (CMSA). The minimum investment for long-term bonds is TZS 1,000,000.
To participate, investors must open a Central Depository System (CDS) account, which safely records and manages all transactions.
Opening the account is free, and investors need to provide a National ID (NIDA), Tax Identification Number (TIN), and two passport-size photos.
Long-term bondholders earn semi-annual coupon payments, directly credited to their nominated bank accounts.
This initiative allows Tanzanians, both individuals and institutions, to actively contribute to government financing while enjoying secure returns, reinforcing the role of the domestic market in national economic development.
