ACT Wazalendo has rejected the results of the October 29, 2025, General Election, describing it as neither free, fair, nor credible, and called for a fresh poll to restore Tanzanians’ right to choose their leaders.
The party’s National Executive Committee met yesterday at its headquarters in Dar es Salaam to review the post-election report and issue resolutions on key national issues.
ACT Wazalendo praised its legal team for filing 84 court cases seeking justice for citizens and highlighted ongoing litigation challenging parliamentary election results, which determine party representation through Special Seats and funding.
The party expressed concern that, despite receiving over 2.2 million votes 6.8% of all valid parliamentary ballots it failed to secure even a single Special Seat, contrary to constitutional provisions.
On the October 29 killings, the party condemned the violence and demanded accountability for all perpetrators, accurate reporting of deaths, the release of victims’ bodies to families, and an independent international investigation to replace the current commission, which reports directly to the President.
Regarding Zanzibar, ACT Wazalendo thanked the electorate for their support in the 2025 polls but clarified that its position is not tied to joining or rejecting the Government of National Unity.
The party emphasized its role in safeguarding citizens’ rights and ensuring reforms that respect Zanzibar residents’ constitutional privileges.
ACT Wazalendo also warned that the country’s constitutional order has been undermined by security forces, calling for decisive action to restore democratic governance.
The party pledged to lead the campaign for a new constitution, including revising constitutional laws, convening a National Sovereign Conference, drafting a new constitutional framework through a Committee of Experts, and holding a national referendum.
Finally, the party commended Judge Joseph Sinde Warioba for his courage in defending the rule of law and urged respect for his integrity.
ACT Wazalendo accused the ruling party, CCM, of undermining democracy by handing political power to security forces, warning that this threatens national peace and stability.
ACT Wazalendo reiterated its commitment to restoring political authority to citizens through legitimate political processes, ensuring Tanzania remains united, just, and democratic.
