Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has pledged that the government will continue working closely with the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) to strengthen revenue collection and service delivery.

Dr. Mwinyi made the remarks on December 17, 2025, during a meeting with TRA Commissioner General, Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, and senior TRA officials at the State House in Zanzibar.

The discussions focused on improving the efficiency of revenue collection and enhancing public services.

The President noted that government revenue is vital for financing development projects and urged TRA to expand service delivery in all areas with potential to increase efficiency.

Highlighting the rapid growth of Zanzibar’s port activities, he cited Fumba Port as a key hub benefiting from increased cargo traffic.

Dr. Mwinyi also mentioned that special measures are in place for Pemba ports to reduce shipping costs, which will ease business operations and benefit citizens.

He commended TRA for installing a new scanner at the port, saying it will strengthen revenue collection while boosting national security.

On stakeholder engagement, the President emphasized that TRA’s consultations are critical in addressing challenges in revenue operations.

Commissioner General Mwenda expressed appreciation for the support from the Zanzibar Revolutionary Government, noting that the partnership improves TRA’s ability to deliver efficient tax services.

He also confirmed TRA’s ongoing plan to deploy scanners across all ports to enhance efficiency and revenue control.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both the Zanzibar government and TRA to modernize revenue collection and promote economic growth.
