Vice President represents President Samia at emergency great lakes security summit

Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, has represented President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan at an Emergency Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Great Lakes Region, held at State House in Entebbe, Uganda.

The summit brought together leaders from the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region and countries party to the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Great Lakes Region to deliberate on the worsening security situation in eastern DRC. 


The meeting focused on strengthening regional cooperation and collective action aimed at restoring stability and achieving sustainable peace in the conflict-affected area.

Chaired by Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who is the Regional Chairperson of the Oversight Mechanism for the Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework, the summit underscored the responsibility of regional leaders to work together in addressing threats to peace and security in the Great Lakes region.


Representing President Samia, Vice President Nchimbi reaffirmed Tanzania’s commitment to regional peace initiatives and the country’s continued support for diplomatic efforts, dialogue and coordinated regional responses as key pillars for lasting peace in eastern DRC and the wider Great Lakes region.

The Vice President was accompanied by the Minister of State from the Office of the Second Vice President of Zanzibar responsible for Policy, Coordination and the House of Representatives, Hamza Hassan Juma; the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr. Ngwaru Maghembe; and Tanzania’s Ambassador to Uganda, Major General Paul Kisesa Simuli.
