Tanzanians can now obtain birth certificates within 48 hours through a new digital system launched by the Registration, Insolvency and Trusteeship Agency (RITA).
The service, accessible via smartphones and computers, is part of the government’s push to modernise public service delivery.
At the launch, Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs, Dr Juma Zuberi Homera, said, the system is a major step towards digital governance.
"Every citizen, regardless of location, should access essential services quickly and efficiently," he noted.
He added that RITA must continue to reduce registration disputes by ensuring fairness and timely service.
RITA Chief Executive Officer, Frank Kanyusi, noted, “With the eRITA platform, citizens can now apply, track, and receive their birth certificates with ease. This service expands our reach and improves operational efficiency.”
The 48-hour service is expected to strengthen the national civil registration system and support broader development goals by providing reliable personal identification documents, a critical tool for social and economic inclusion.
