By The Respondents Reporter

Tanzania and Algeria have agreed to strengthen economic cooperation in key sectors including energy, investment, tourism, and air transport, as part of efforts to deepen bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

The agreement was reached following talks between Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation,  Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, and Algeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, held in Cairo, Egypt, on December 19, 2025.

The discussions took place on the sidelines of the Second Africa–Russia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held in Cairo, where both sides underscored the importance of enhancing mutually beneficial economic cooperation for the prosperity of their nations.

During the meeting, the two ministers agreed to collaborate in the areas of energy and investment, strengthen cooperation in the tourism sector, and establish direct flights from Dar es Salaam to Algeria, a move expected to boost trade, tourism, and people-to-people relations.

In addition, Minister Kombo invited Algerian investors to explore investment opportunities in Tanzania, particularly in the agricultural sector, the establishment of pharmaceutical manufacturing industries, and other strategic areas critical to national economic growth.

Furthermore, the two sides agreed to establish a Joint Economic Commission that will be responsible for coordinating and overseeing the implementation of economic cooperation initiatives between Tanzania and Algeria.

Other leaders who attended the meeting included Paramagamba Kabudi, Minister for Information, Arts, Culture and Sports, Ambassador Ali Bujiku, and Ambassador Noel Kaganda.
