The Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) has dismissed social media reports suggesting that a section of the Dodoma–Gairo road in Makaravati, Kongwa District, was built below standard.
TANROADS says the 300-meter stretch in question is a trial section constructed as part of standard procedures before full-scale paving begins.
Speaking in Dodoma, TANROADS Regional Resident Engineer, Elisony Mweladzi, explained that trial sections are common practice.
“Before laying asphalt, a contractor is given a 300-meter stretch to test and ensure that all specifications meet the required standards,” he said.
Tests conducted by TANROADS laboratories revealed that the section did not fully meet the standards. The agency has therefore directed the contractor, Kings Builders, to make corrections immediately at their own cost.
Edward Njau, representing Kings Builders, confirmed receiving the letter and assured that corrective measures will be implemented without delay.
Engineer Mweladzi emphasized that TANROADS will continue to closely supervise the project to ensure quality construction and safeguard public funds.
