The Tanzania Handball Association (TAHA) has postponed the Taifa Cup tournament that was scheduled to be held in December this year in Dodoma, citing reasons beyond its control.
According to TAHA’s 2025 competition calendar, the national tournament was initially earmarked for December, but the association has now decided to defer it to a later date, which will be communicated in due course.
Confirming the development, TAHA Acting Secretary General Yehofat Kalulu said the decision was unavoidable and aimed at safeguarding the integrity and proper organisation of the competition.
“The Taifa Cup has been postponed until further official communication is issued,” Kalulu said.
He expressed appreciation to regional sports associations and other handball stakeholders for their ongoing efforts to strengthen the sport, particularly through the registration of regional handball associations.
Kalulu singled out Rukwa, Kagera, Iringa and Kilimanjaro regions for demonstrating commendable commitment in ensuring their associations are duly registered.
He further urged other regions to take deliberate steps to register their associations with the National Sports Council (BMT), noting that full compliance is critical to the successful staging of national competitions in the future.
According to Kalulu, proper registration and adherence to regulations will enhance the quality, credibility and sustainability of the Taifa Cup when it is eventually staged.
