Councilors of Same District Council have been urged to enhance accountability, strengthen revenue and development project supervision, and ensure that citizens’ concerns and challenges are addressed promptly.
They were also reminded to safeguard and properly manage the Council’s revenues to maintain a clean audit report from the Controller and Auditor General (CAG).
These directives were issued recently during the inauguration of the First Council Meeting of the Same District Council, held at the District Council’s conference hall.
Speaking on behalf of the Kilimanjaro Regional Administrative Secretary, Mr. Ponciano Kirumbi emphasized that councilors must fulfill their responsibilities diligently while adhering to public service ethics.
The meeting also included the election of leaders, where Mr. Yusto Mapande was elected Council Chairman and Mr. Rashid Jasper as the Vice Chairman of Same District Council.
Meanwhile, the Same District Commissioner, Kasilda Mgeni, urged councilors to create new revenue sources, ensure proper management of council funds and development projects, and serve as ambassadors of peace within their wards.
Closing the meeting, the newly elected Chairman, Mr. Yusto Mapande, thanked all councilors who voted for him and pledged that the council will work cooperatively to ensure full implementation of development projects.
Additionally, the Chairman of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) Party in Same District, Mr. Abdallah Mnyambo, called on government leaders and citizens to avoid actions that may lead to chaos including the planned demonstrations scheduled for the 9th of this month and instead continue upholding peace, stability, and unity within Same District.
This initiative aims to strengthen good governance principles and promote sustainable development in Same District.
