Said expresses confidence in Taifa Stars ahead of AFCON

With just five days remaining before the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Morocco, Tanzanian football coach Amri Said has expressed strong confidence in the ability of Taifa Stars’ head coach, Miguel Gamondi, to assemble a competitive squad capable of delivering positive results in the tournament.

The competition is set to kick off on December 21, with Tanzania playing its opening match against Nigeria on December 23.

Speaking to The Respondents Online, Said said the preparations, including the training camp held in Egypt, have given players sufficient time to prepare effectively.

He noted that the squad combines a promising mix of young talents, players based abroad, and experienced internationals who have proven themselves in previous tournaments.

Said emphasized that Tanzanians expect the team to compete fiercely rather than just participate, with a strong focus on achieving positive results.

“Considering the excellent work Gamondi has done with local teams, he has earned the trust to take on this responsibility. We are hopeful that he can lead us to the later stages of the tournament, possibly reaching the semi-finals or even the final,” Said said.

He added that the success of the squad will largely depend on the players’ unity, teamwork, and motivation, alongside effective management by the technical bench and close collaboration with assistants.
