The Dar es Salaam Special Zone Police have confirmed the arrest of former Investment Minister Geoffrey Mwambe, who was taken into custody on the night of December 7, 2025, in Tegeta, Kinondoni District.
His detention forms part of an ongoing criminal investigation, though authorities have not disclosed the nature of the allegations under review.
Police said Mwambe was arrested during a routine security operation and has since been held for further investigative procedures.
It remains uncertain whether the former minister will face formal charges, as inquiries are still in progress.
His lawyer, Hekima Mwasipu, and members of his family have voiced concern over what they describe as unlawful detention, arguing that Mwambe has not been brought before a court within the timeframe required by law.
They have filed a petition seeking judicial clarification on the legality of his continued custody. The matter is scheduled for hearing on December 15, 2025.
Mwambe, a seasoned public servant, previously served in key government roles, including Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Investment and later Minister for Industry and Trade.
He also represented Masasi Constituency in Parliament under the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM).
The Police have urged the public to remain calm as the legal process unfolds, emphasising that the investigation will adhere strictly to the law.
