Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has directed the speedy completion of the ongoing renovation of Majengo Market in Dodoma, stressing that the project must be delivered on schedule to ensure traders benefit from improved trading facilities.

Dr. Nchemba issued the directive on Thursday, December 11, 2025, during an impromptu inspection tour to assess progress at the site.

The renovation works, which aim to modernise one of the city’s busiest markets, are projected to be completed by March 2026.

Speaking after the inspection, the Prime Minister said the government is committed to strengthening local markets as part of its broader plan to expand economic opportunities for small and medium traders.

“This market is a key economic hub for many households in Dodoma. We want to see it completed on time and to the highest standards so traders can resume their businesses in a safer and more organised environment,” he said.

Dr. Nchemba also instructed Dodoma City Director, Dr. Fredrerik Sagamiko, to prioritise the allocation of stalls to the traders who originally operated at the market before renovation works began.

He emphasised that fairness in the allocation process will help restore confidence among small traders who rely on the market for their livelihoods.

He further called for close supervision of contractors to avoid unnecessary delays and ensure value for money.

The renovation of Majengo Market is part of the government’s broader initiative to improve urban infrastructure and enhance economic activities in the capital city.
