The Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute (JKCI) has provided life-saving heart surgeries to 125 children, thanks to financial support from NMB Bank, marking a major boost in access to specialised cardiac care for vulnerable families.

NMB Bank pledged TZS1 billion in late 2024 to fund surgeries for children with congenital and acquired heart conditions treated at JKCI.

Half of the commitment TZSS500 million has already been released, enabling the institute to scale up interventions for young patients requiring urgent surgical procedures.

A delegation from NMB, led by Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Ruth Zaipuna, visited JKCI to review the progress of the initiative.

The team was received by the Executive Director of JKCI, Dr Peter Kisenge, who praised the bank’s sustained support to the health sector.

Dr Kisenge said the contribution has eased the financial burden on many families and strengthened JKCI’s ability to deliver highly specialised treatment previously accessible only through costly referrals abroad.

“This support has transformed lives. Many children who would have waited for years have now been successfully operated on,” he noted.

Ms Zaipuna reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to prioritising health under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda, saying NMB will continue to stand with communities in need.

“Our goal is to touch hearts and save lives. We are proud to partner with JKCI in ensuring that more children get a chance to live healthy, fulfilling lives,” she said.

Through its CSR strategy, NMB Bank continues to channel resources into impactful programmes that improve public health and strengthen service delivery, reinforcing its long-term vision of building a healthier nation.
