Efforts to strengthen access to quality education through technology received a boost after KOK Foundation, in partnership with Msaada Education Foundation, donated 21 computers to students enrolled in higher learning institutions across Tanzania.
The computers were officially handed over during a ceremony held at the Raha Leo Alternative Education Hall in Unguja, with the Member of Parliament for Mtambile, Mr Aley Masoud Aley, officiating as the guest of honour.
The beneficiaries are students originating from the shehias of Mjimbini, Kangani and Kukuu (MKAKUU), selected as part of an initiative aimed at empowering young people with modern digital tools to enhance learning, research and academic performance.
Information released during the event showed that out of the 21 students who received the computers, 13 were women and eight men, underscoring the foundations’ commitment to promoting gender equality in education support.
Addressing the students, Mr Aley urged them to use the computers strictly for academic and productive purposes, noting that access to technology plays a critical role in building skills, expanding knowledge and nurturing innovation among youth.
He also reminded the students of the importance of preserving cultural values and social ethics, stressing that meaningful education should go hand in hand with good morals and respect for community traditions.
The lawmaker further called on the beneficiaries to remain disciplined and focused in their studies, saying the people of Mtambile and Zanzibaris in general have high expectations of them as future professionals and leaders who will contribute to national development.
He added that education should remain their central life goal as they prepare for the future.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, the students expressed appreciation to KOK Foundation, Msaada Education Foundation and the Mtambile MP for the support, saying the computers would significantly improve their learning experience and academic efficiency.
They described the initiative as a rare and encouraging example of leadership that goes beyond words to invest directly in young people, particularly in the education sector, adding that it has renewed their motivation and hope for a better future.
