Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji, has urged the Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) to closely supervise 15 ongoing projects at the Mpanga Kipengere Game Reserve.

She emphasized that timely completion is crucial for communities to start benefiting from the country’s natural resource investments.

Dr. Kijaji made the call during a visit to the reserve, part of her ongoing tour of conservation and tourism sites nationwide.

She stressed that government funds must be used efficiently to ensure the projects meet high standards and deliver real value.

“These 15 projects were initiated under the sixth-phase government led by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan. I urge TAWA to oversee them carefully, ensuring sustainability and tangible results so that the TZS 4.14 billion investment benefits local communities and showcases the government’s commitment to conservation,” Dr. Kijaji said.

The minister also encouraged TAWA to explore new investment opportunities within the reserve and actively promote them to boost both domestic and international tourism, aligning with the government’s target of eight million tourists by 2030.

“Let’s invite investors and sell opportunities to Tanzanians and foreigners so visitors can enjoy a safe and peaceful stay at Mpanga Kipengere. Promote these opportunities as the President has opened the door through the Royal Tour initiative,” she added.

Deputy Minister Hamad Hassan Chande urged TAWA to maintain strong partnerships with local communities to safeguard the country’s natural resources for present and future generations.

“Communities have been excellent guardians of our resources. I encourage everyone to continue protecting and conserving our natural wealth with dedication, as these are blessings from God,” said Deputy Minister Chande.
