Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Ambassador Dr. Bashiru Ally Kakurwa, has officially launched the ministry’s new emblem and motto: “Work with Integrity, We Move Forward; Work with a Smile, We Move Forward”.
The initiative supports President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision of delivering services that bring joy and satisfaction to Tanzanians.
The launch took place on December 15, 2025, during a working session with ministry staff at the Government City in Mtumba, Dodoma.
Dr. Kakurwa highlighted that during the opening of the 13th Parliament, President Samia emphasized that the legacy of her administration should not only be measured by achievements but also by the smiles and dignity left on citizens’ faces.
“The livestock and fisheries sectors are key to ensuring that the President leaves a lasting legacy of service, dignity, and happiness for Tanzanians,” Dr. Kakurwa said.
He explained that all activities within the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries are guided by the President’s 4R vision Reform, Resilience, Reconciliation, and Reconstruction. Staff were urged to uphold the rule of law, maintain discipline, and make careful, well-informed decisions while executing their duties.
The minister encouraged employees to work as a unified team, follow established procedures, and recognize the importance of every individual’s role in achieving the ministry’s goals.
He also emphasized the responsibility of public servants to report activities transparently in Parliament and to be receptive to public feedback through an effective monitoring system.
Dr. Kakurwa called on the Government Communication Unit to proactively provide clear explanations to the public whenever clarification is required.
Deputy Minister of Livestock and Fisheries, Mr. Ng’wasi Kamani, thanked President Samia for trusting him with the ministry, noting that the livestock and fisheries sectors are crucial for job creation and nutritional security.
He added that significant progress has been achieved thanks to strong staff collaboration and reinforced the sectors’ importance to national development and economic growth.
Permanent Secretary Ms. Agnes Meena reported that the ministry employs 1,042 staff across various service points. She revealed plans to establish a Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (SACCOS) to support employees financially and ease economic challenges.
Deputy Permanent Secretary Dr. Edwin Mhede emphasized that the ministry’s work is aimed at benefiting citizens economically and socially, particularly by improving nutrition through livestock and fishery products.
He highlighted the importance of animal and fish proteins for human growth and development.
During the session, staff had the opportunity to raise questions, share ideas, and discuss strategies for developing the livestock and fisheries sectors, as well as improving the working environment for ministry employees.
