Leaders in Mbeya District have been urged to actively engage youth, elders, and other community groups in discussions on peace, highlighting its central role in ensuring development and social stability.
The call was made by the District Administrative Secretary, Mohamed Azizi, during a Public Procurement Act training for councillors on December 3, 2025.
The training aimed to strengthen councillors’ understanding of proper procurement procedures and accountability in managing public resources.
“I urge all councillors to champion peace in their communities. Hold meetings with elders, youth, and other groups to discuss its importance, because peace is the foundation of progress in any nation,” Azizi said.
He emphasized that leaders must dedicate time to educating the public on the value of peace, noting that without it, no services, development, or community well-being can thrive.
Azizi also reminded councillors to perform their duties with professionalism, accountability, and adherence to civil service regulations to ensure the delivery of quality services to citizens.
During the training, Southern Highlands Procurement Manager Paschal Manono explained the importance of transparency in public spending and compliance with procurement laws to avoid challenges that could hinder council performance.
Mbeya District Council Chairperson and Utengule Usongwe Ward Councillor, Aida Haule, said the training would significantly improve council operations. She assured that councillors would apply the lessons to oversee development projects effectively.
“This training provides guidance on procurement, ethics, and anti-corruption measures. We must work closely with our youth to achieve positive results in our communities,” Haule said.
The session underscored the importance of leadership engagement with citizens, highlighting peace, transparency, and ethical governance as key drivers of sustainable development.
