Assistant Internal Auditor General, Engineer Kenneth Nindie, has called on internal auditors to be more diligent, efficient, and innovative in auditing development projects to ensure public funds deliver real benefits to citizens.

Speaking on the second day of a capacity-building workshop for over 90 senior auditors from ministries, regional secretariats, local councils, and other government institutions, Engineer Nindie said the Ministry of Finance is committed to strengthening auditors’ skills in emerging areas, including Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) audits and Value for Money (VFM) assessments.

“We want internal auditors to lead in ensuring development projects provide real value for money, uphold good governance principles, and protect the environment for present and future generations. We will continue expanding their skills beyond ESG and VFM audits,” he said.

The training also covered ISSB Sustainability Reporting Standards, regulatory and compliance frameworks, and integrating value-for-money considerations in project design.

Engineer Nindie noted that equipping auditors with comprehensive knowledge will enhance accountability and ensure public resources are used effectively, producing sustainable results for communities.

The program is part of ongoing government efforts to build strong audit systems that safeguard public funds and support meaningful development outcomes.
