Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to regional peace and stability after participating in an Emergency Summit of Heads of State and Government of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR) and Member States of the Peace, Security and Cooperation (PSC) Framework for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Great Lakes region.

The high-level meeting, held in Entebbe, Uganda, brought together regional leaders and international partners to discuss coordinated and sustainable approaches to addressing insecurity in eastern DRC and the wider Great Lakes region.

Tanzania was represented by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Dr. Ngwaru Maghembe, on behalf of the Minister.

The summit discussed and endorsed agendas aimed at promoting open, inclusive and constructive dialogue as a basis for resolving regional challenges.

Particular emphasis was placed on addressing the root causes of conflict, restoring lasting peace and strengthening stability in eastern DRC and the Great Lakes region through well-coordinated regional mechanisms.

During the discussions, Tanzania joined other member states in underscoring the importance of African-led and regionally driven solutions.

As a long-standing advocate of dialogue, reconciliation and sustainable development, Tanzania reiterated its firm commitment to advancing peace and security through collective responsibility and mutual cooperation among regional actors.

Leaders also stressed the need to enhance collaboration among regional organizations and international partners to ensure peace initiatives are inclusive, effective and sustainable, while reinforcing regional solidarity in responding to shared security challenges.

The Emergency Summit was preceded by a meeting of National Coordinators, where Tanzania’s delegation was led by Assistant Director in the Africa Department, Ms. Ellen Maduhu.

The preparatory meeting aligned national and regional priorities ahead of the high-level engagement.

Meanwhile, the Vice President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, is scheduled to represent President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the upcoming ICGLR and PSC Heads of State and Government Summit set for December 21, 2025, following an official invitation from the President of the Republic of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni.

Through its participation, Tanzania continues to play an active role in promoting peace, security and cooperation across the Great Lakes region through African-led and regionally coordinated approaches.
