The Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA) and the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) have agreed to strengthen their institutional cooperation, particularly in the management and supervision of tax matters arising from services regulated by EWURA.
Officials from the two institutions met in Dodoma on Tuesday to review existing areas of collaboration and explore new ways of enhancing operational efficiency in revenue administration within the regulated energy and water sectors.
Speaking during the meeting, EWURA Acting Director General, Mr Gerald Maganga, said the authority remains a strategic partner in supporting TRA to effectively discharge its mandate of tax collection and compliance enforcement in the country.
Mr Maganga noted that regulated sectors play a significant role in the national economy, making close cooperation between EWURA and TRA essential for ensuring transparency, compliance and sustainable revenue mobilisation.
“The existing cooperation between our two institutions is important for national development. If well maintained and effectively implemented, it will take us further. We must continue to nurture this partnership and closely monitor the implementation of our agreed areas of cooperation,” he said.
He added that information sharing and coordinated oversight would help improve compliance among service providers regulated by EWURA, while also strengthening accountability in tax-related matters.
On his part, Dodoma Regional TRA Manager, Mr Pendolake Elinisafi, commended EWURA for its continued support and strong working relationship with the tax authority.
He said the collaboration has contributed to improved understanding of regulated services and enhanced efficiency in tax administration.
Mr Elinisafi reaffirmed TRA’s commitment to sustaining and strengthening the partnership, noting that closer cooperation would lay a solid foundation for the success of both institutions and contribute positively to national revenue performance.
He emphasised that coordinated institutional efforts are key to addressing emerging challenges in tax compliance, particularly in regulated sectors that continue to expand alongside economic growth.
The meeting reflects ongoing government efforts to enhance inter-agency collaboration as part of broader reforms aimed at improving public sector efficiency, strengthening revenue collection and supporting sustainable economic development.
