Dodoma treasury pensioners begin receiving electronic identification cards

By The Respondents Reporter

Pensioners in Dodoma City who receive their payments through the Treasury have started receiving electronic identification cards, as the government steps up efforts to modernise pension services and improve access to public services.

The Ministry of Finance has called on all Treasury-paid pensioners in Dodoma City to report to the Treasury Offices at Treasury Square to collect the new electronic IDs. The exercise, which has officially started, is expected to run for 14 days.

Launching the exercise, a First Grade Accountant from the Ministry of Finance, Ms Jenipha Ntangeki, said the new electronic identification cards are designed to address challenges associated with the old paper-based IDs, including poor durability and difficulty in reading pensioners’ details.

She explained that the electronic IDs are more secure, long-lasting and easier to use, as pensioners’ information can be accessed electronically, enabling them to receive services without unnecessary delays.

“These cards are suitable for official use. Pensioners who have already received them can start using them immediately when accessing services, as they are modern, reliable and user-friendly,” Ms Ntangeki said.

Speaking on behalf of pensioners who turned up to collect the new IDs, Mr Andrew Makulukulu praised the government, through the Ministry of Finance, for continuing to prioritise the welfare of pensioners by introducing the electronic cards.

He said the new system will help eliminate problems related to unreadable or damaged documents, making it easier for pensioners to be identified and served.

The Ministry of Finance said the issuance of electronic identification cards has begun in Dodoma City and will be rolled out to other regions across the country.

Pensioners in other areas who are paid through the Treasury are expected to start receiving the cards from January 2026, according to a schedule that will be announced through the media.
