The Regional Commissioner (RC) of Dar es Salaam, Albert Chalamila, has urged the Tanzania Correctional Training Academy (TCTA) in Ukonga to prioritize research that can enhance the institution’s development and the correctional sector at large.
Speaking on December 17, 2025, during the academy’s third graduation ceremony for the Diploma in Correctional Science, RC Chalamila called on graduates to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired to improve performance as prison officers.
He commended TCTA Ukonga for delivering quality education and training, urging the institution to continue improving its teaching and learning environment.
“Research is a key tool for growth. I encourage the academy to engage in studies that will strengthen its role in the correctional system,” he said.
During the ceremony, 44 students who met all academic and legal requirements were awarded diplomas in Correctional Science.
Among them, Ms. Idda P. Danda was recognized as the top-performing student and received a special award for her outstanding academic achievements.
Before closing the event, RC Chalamila received a request from the academy for solar-powered lights to be installed at strategic points on campus.
He asked the management to submit a detailed plan outlining their lighting needs so that his office could assess possible support.
The ceremony highlighted TCTA Ukonga’s commitment to nurturing skilled professionals ready to serve Tanzania’s correctional system while emphasizing the importance of research-driven growth in education and training.
