Livestock farmers in Chanika Ward, Ilala District, have commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for spearheading initiatives that have transformed their livelihoods, reduced poverty, and increased income over the past four years.
Speaking on behalf of local farmers, Hamim Idrisa, Secretary of the Chanika Ward Livestock Association, highlighted three major projects launched during President Samia’s first term. He said these initiatives have been pivotal in supporting poultry farmers and enhancing livestock management.
“The government has introduced drug-free poultry farming, which has greatly benefited us. There is also a program addressing drug resistance in livestock disease treatment, and the egg-laying chicken project, where we receive inputs, medicines, and training through our ward officers,” Idrisa explained.
He noted that these interventions have not only increased productivity but also stabilized incomes for many households, helping farmers move away from poverty and become self-reliant.
Idrisa also praised the government for improving social services, citing the construction of a mortuary at Nguvu Kazi Hospital and the initiation of the Kidugilo dispensary project, with funding and land already secured.
“These efforts show that the government is committed not only to economic development but also to improving health and community welfare, which together create a solid foundation for sustainable progress,” he said.
For Chanika farmers, the message is clear: targeted, citizen-focused policies, combined with effective leadership, can bring tangible change to rural communities.
