Brave Women driving economic empowerment and community change

By The Respondents Reporter

Women in Tanzania are learning that empowerment goes beyond personal success it can transform entire communities.

The Brave Women Foundation is helping women achieve economic independence while giving back to society.

Speaking at a women’s forum in Dar es Salaam, Irene Mapendo, Executive Director of Brave Women, urged women to support one another, stay united, and work hard to overcome poverty.

The forum brought together entrepreneurs from diverse backgrounds to share experiences and explore new opportunities.

“Brave Women is more than a network; it is a platform where women gain knowledge in entrepreneurship, financial management, and economic empowerment. These skills enable them to build sustainable livelihoods and secure a brighter future for themselves and their families,” Mapendo said.

The foundation also emphasizes social responsibility, encouraging women to give back to children and vulnerable groups.

“We ensure that the benefits of empowerment ripple through society, creating positive change for all,” Mapendo added.

Bumi Mwampeta, Vice Chairperson of Brave Women, highlighted the power of collective action. “When women unite, they can overcome challenges, fight poverty, and create opportunities not only for themselves but for their communities,” she said.

Group members shared how Brave Women has transformed their outlook. Accountant Dorice Meena described the group as a supportive family that provides mentorship, learning, and networking opportunities.

“Through Brave Women, we gain confidence, discover new opportunities, and broaden our horizons,” she said.

Elizabeth Mpenzu, another member, urged women to engage in social and entrepreneurial activities rather than remain confined at home.

“You cannot discover the opportunities the world offers if you remain isolated,” she said.

Since its inception, Brave Women has empowered women to realize their potential, build resilience, and achieve sustainable livelihoods.

The foundation demonstrates that when women succeed economically, communities flourish.
