The World Bank-funded Boosting Student Learning Outcomes (BOOST) programme has released TZS 299.2 million for the construction of a new one-stream primary school at Nzuguni A ward in Dodoma.
Dodoma City Council Director, Dr. Frederick Sagamiko, announced the funding during a recent inspection of the project in the city.
He urged local authorities to closely monitor the construction to ensure it is completed on schedule.
Dr. Sagamiko instructed the project supervisor to increase the number of artisans and labourers to accelerate implementation.
He also advised that all procurement of materials, including desks, be advertised promptly through the NeST system to avoid delays.
Mr. Rogers Justinian, Head of Nzuguni Secondary School and supervisor of the project, confirmed that the school received TZS 299.2 million from BOOST.
He explained that the construction includes an administration block, six classrooms, two pre-primary classrooms, 12 school toilet cubicles, and six pre-primary toilet cubicles.
The project has been divided into six lots, each handled by different contractors covering two classrooms, the administration block, and toilets.
Current progress shows that roofing of four classrooms and the toilet block is complete, while other buildings are at the lintel stage.
Regarding expenditures, TZS 125.678 million has been spent on payments to suppliers and artisans, leaving a balance of TZS 176.5 million.
Meanwhile, Dr. Sagamiko commended the head teacher of Mazengo Primary School for effectively supervising school renovations under BOOST funding. He urged staff to accelerate work to avoid classroom shortages before schools reopen.
During the inspection, Rehema Nkungu, a staff member, presented the renovation progress report. She said the goal of the work is to improve classroom infrastructure, restore dilapidated buildings, and enhance the teaching and learning environment, ensuring safe and efficient education delivery. Mazengo Primary School was established on January 1, 1970.
BOOST aims to improve teaching quality and learning resources, strengthen school infrastructure, and enhance education management and accountability across Tanzania, supporting efforts to create better learning outcomes for students.
