Simba SC head coach Steve Barker is set to field his squad against Muembe Makumbi City in the Commemorative Cup on January 3 at Zanzibar’s New Amaan Complex.

The Simba team will depart tomorrow for Zanzibar to kick off their tournament campaign, with the club’s CEO, Zubeda Sakuru, already on the islands to oversee preparations.

Confirming the plans, Zubeda said players will compete under Barker’s guidance, alongside his coaching staff, as part of efforts to fully integrate the team ahead of the new season. He added that all players not on national duty will participate.

“We were invited, and we accepted. The aim is to strengthen our collaboration with the Revolutionary Government, especially after having previously reached the finals here,” Zubeda said.

He highlighted that the team is well-prepared, with players in peak physical and mental condition, boosting hopes of a highly competitive performance.

Zubeda emphasized that Simba’s goal goes beyond participation; the club aims to deliver strong results and maintain its competitive stature in Zanzibar.

He also noted that the tournament will be an opportunity to scout new talents ahead of the upcoming short registration window, allowing the squad to reinforce where necessary.

Finally, Zubeda called on Simba fans from both the mainland and Zanzibar to attend in large numbers and support the team in what promises to be an exciting tournament.
