Tanzanian youth have been urged to take the lead in safeguarding the country’s hard-won peace and avoid actions that could spark violence.
Car wash entrepreneur Mr. Salum Salum Mnenga made the call following incidents of unrest, property destruction, and theft in several parts of the country during the October 29, 2025, general elections.
He noted that the disruptions had a severe economic impact, particularly on low-income citizens, as many businesses were forced to halt operations for nearly five days until President Samia Suluhu Hassan urged citizens to resume normal economic and social activities.
“Peace is the foundation for economic growth and social stability. When it is disrupted, the most vulnerable suffer the most,” Mr. Mnenga said.
He further appealed to youth not to be provoked into demonstrations or any acts that undermine peace. He stressed the importance of acting with reason, respecting the law, and following proper procedures before taking any action.
“Let us all commit to protecting our nation’s peace. Every citizen has a role to play, especially the youth who are the future of Tanzania,” he added.
