TANESCO strengthens national power system with efficient project management

Tanzania is moving closer to achieving a reliable electricity supply thanks to the efficient implementation of strategic projects by the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO).

Energy Minister, Deogratius Ndejembi, has praised the utility’s effective oversight in power generation, transmission, and distribution, calling it a key factor in building a robust national electricity system.

On November 27, 2025, Minister Ndejembi inspected the 400-kilovolt (kV) Chalinze-Dodoma power transmission project, urging the completion of the project on schedule and according to international quality standards.

He stressed the importance of strong supervision to ensure no delays affect the delivery of electricity to Tanzanians.

“The government expects TANESCO to closely monitor the contractor and ensure the project is finished on time. We cannot allow a situation where a project is handed over incomplete,” Minister Ndejembi said.

The minister revealed that the project, valued at TZS 556 billion, is fully funded with domestic resources.

TANESCO has been directed to meet with contractors and develop a detailed action plan to track progress and ensure each phase of the project is completed efficiently.

Minister Ndejembi also highlighted President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s commitment to ensuring that electricity reaches citizens promptly and reliably across the country.

TANESCO’s Managing Director, Mr. Lazaro Twange, emphasized that Tanzania already has sufficient electricity generation capacity.

The current focus, he said, is on delivering this power from production points to households, businesses, and investors across the country.

“The completion of major reception and cooling stations in Dodoma and Chalinze will serve as central hubs, channeling electricity from the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project (JNHPP) and other sources to different regions of the country,” Mr. Twange said.

He added that the Dodoma reception station is a key junction, not only receiving power from multiple sources but also linking Tanzania’s electricity network with Kenya, strengthening regional cooperation.

These strategic projects are crucial for ensuring Tanzania has a resilient and reliable electricity system capable of meeting present demands and the needs of future generations.

Citizens can expect more consistent electricity supply, supporting households, businesses, and industrial growth across the nation.
