Dr. Jingu urges foster care graduates to extend skills to communities

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, Dr. John Jingu, has urged graduates of foster and alternative care training to take their skills to communities, stressing the growing need for professionals in this field.

Dr. Jingu spoke on November 27, 2025, in Dar es Salaam during the 27th graduation ceremony for 120 trainees who completed the six-month program organized by Denmark’s Fair Start Organization in partnership with SOS Village Tanzania.

“The future of our nation depends on today’s children. Unfortunately, not all children grow up with their parents. Some rely on alternative caregivers, and it is crucial that they receive quality care for a brighter future,” Dr. Jingu said.

He emphasized that the government, through the ministry, has a responsibility to oversee foster care and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure children receive care that promotes their growth, well-being, and overall national development.

Thomas Kipingili, Director of SOS Tanzania, said the training aims to expand foster care knowledge across communities, enabling graduates to provide services locally and train others.

Graduate Laizer Kirave said the program gave them a deep understanding of positive caregiving, child protection, alternative care, children’s rights, and ways to strengthen families and communities.

“We are committed to promoting safe, inclusive, and child-centered care to build a society where children are valued, protected, and empowered,” Kirave added.
