Residents of Dar es Salaam are struggling with soaring transport costs following the suspension of the fast-moving bus service, Mwendokasi, and are urging the government to restore the service without delay.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Pius Focus said commuters now face significant challenges, often having to board two or more vehicles to cover distances that previously required only a single Mwendokasi bus.
The situation has been worsened by severe traffic congestion, which continues to disrupt both economic and social activities.
Residents have also expressed frustration over the rising fares of daladala minibuses and Bajaj motorcycles, driven by increased demand for alternative transport.
Many households report spending far more on daily commuting, putting additional strain on family budgets.
The community is appealing to the government to quickly reinstate Mwendokasi, stressing that its return would not only reduce travel costs but also ease the traffic congestion that has forced even car owners to seek alternative means of transport.
