Simba SC is set to kick off its group-stage campaign tomorrow when they host Angola’s Atletico Petro de Luanda at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The match marks the team’s first encounter with the Angolan side and is expected to be fiercely competitive.
Assistant Coach Selemani Matola expressed confidence in the team’s preparation, highlighting that players are in top condition and focused on securing a positive start.
“We are well-prepared to take all three points in our home match. Although we have never faced Atletico Petro before, our preparations have been thorough, and the players are ready for the challenge,” he said.
Matola emphasized the difficulty of facing a new opponent, noting that the unfamiliarity makes the game challenging.
He also called on fans to come out in large numbers and support the team at the stadium.
“We have worked hard to ensure a strong start and hope our supporters will create the atmosphere needed to drive the team to victory,” he added.
Midfielder Joshua Mutale said the players are motivated and aware of the importance of the opening match.
“Tomorrow’s game is crucial. A win will set the tone for our journey in the group stage. We will follow the coaches’ instructions closely to secure three points, even though we know it will be a tough match,” he said.
Mutale added that the squad has trained extensively to entertain fans and deliver a strong performance.
On the visiting side, Atletico Petro de Luanda head coach Franc Artiga confirmed his team is well-prepared for the encounter.
“We are ready to compete and aim for three points. We know Simba is a strong team with many talented players, and we expect a challenging game,” Artiga said.
Tomorrow’s match promises excitement, high intensity, and a battle for supremacy as both sides aim to make a strong start in the group stage.
