The Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji (MP), has urged staff within the ministry and its agencies to prioritize the welfare and dignity of Tanzanians when delivering public services.
Dr. Kijaji made the remarks in Dodoma shortly after reporting to her new office and holding discussions with the ministry’s management, following her swearing-in by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
She emphasized that it is essential for public servants to uphold respect and safeguard the interests of citizens, ensuring they receive quality services and the development they deserve.
“Our citizens rely on us to deliver on the responsibilities entrusted to us on behalf of over 61 million Tanzanians. It is our duty to empower them so they can continue to live dignified and fulfilling lives,” Dr. Kijaji said.
She explained that the CCM Manifesto places strong emphasis on people’s welfare, a goal that cannot be achieved if persistent challenges, including destructive wildlife, are not addressed.
“A farmer cultivates 20 acres of pigeon peas, they mature, and then elephants destroy everything; there is no welfare in that. We must think broadly and find solutions that truly protect their livelihoods,” she stressed.
Dr. Kijaji further noted that President Samia’s philosophy of “Work with Humanity” requires every public servant to put citizens first:
“When you serve someone, ask yourself — would I want to be served the same way? That is the foundation of our work,” she remarked.
The Minister also encouraged ministry staff to maintain hard work, professionalism, and unity as they strive to fulfill national aspirations through conservation, natural resources, and tourism sectors.
Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Hamad Hassan Chande thanked the management and staff for the warm welcome and reiterated the importance of serving with dignity.
“We are here to join hands with you in building the nation. We have not come as rulers, but as leaders committed to delivering the President’s vision. Serve with humanity and recognize the value of the people,” Chande said.
Permanent Secretary Dr. Hassan Abbas pledged full cooperation with the new leadership to advance ministry and national priorities, particularly in citizen services and promoting tourism attractions.
Earlier, Minister Kijaji inspected a special parade mounted by the Conservation Force (JU), led by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Abbas.
