SADC unveils 2025–2030 communication strategy to boost regional integration

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has launched its 2025–2030 Communication and Advocacy Strategy, marking a major step in strengthening communication systems, regional cooperation and sustainable development across its 16 member states.

The strategy was officially introduced on November 17, 2025, in Gaborone, Botswana, during an event that drew communication experts, media practitioners and international development partners.

Launching the strategy, SADC Deputy Executive Secretary for Regional Integration, Ms. Angele Makombo Ntumba, said the framework is designed to modernise how the region communicates in an increasingly digital world.

She emphasised that effective communication will help accelerate infrastructure development, strengthen economies, expand trade and support social development projects across Southern Africa.

Ms. Ntumba noted that the strategy, produced in English, French and Portuguese, will be implemented jointly by member states through National SADC Coordinators and National Information and Communication Coordinators.

She called on these coordinators to work closely with media organisations, ICT institutions and other stakeholders to ensure the strategy delivers tangible results.

She also thanked the Government of Germany, through the development agency GIZ, for funding both the preparation and launch of the strategy.

According to her, this support has enabled SADC to broaden its reach and enhance its tools for communication and public awareness.

The Head of Economic and Development Cooperation at the German Embassy in Botswana, Ms. Simone Goertz, reaffirmed GIZ’s commitment to supporting the roll-out of the strategy.

She said the partnership is intended to help the region achieve sustainable development in line with global changes.

The unveiling of the strategy signals SADC’s renewed commitment to strengthening regional identity, improving access to information and deepening cooperation among member states.
