Prioritizing Tanzanian dignity in public service

The Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji (MP), has called on her ministry’s staff and affiliated institutions to prioritize the interests and dignity of Tanzanians in service delivery.

Dr. Kijaji made the remarks in Dodoma shortly after reporting for duty and engaging with ministry management, following her swearing-in by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.

She stressed that public servants must work with the welfare of citizens in mind to ensure they receive the quality services and development they deserve.

“Citizens rely on us to implement what we have been entrusted with on behalf of 61 million Tanzanians. Our responsibility is to empower them so they can continue to live well,” Dr. Kijaji said.

Highlighting the importance of addressing challenges that threaten people’s livelihoods, she gave a practical example: “A farmer cultivates 20 acres of pigeon peas, they mature, and then elephants destroy the crops. Well-being is not achieved. We must think ahead to safeguard their welfare.”

Dr. Kijaji also underlined the President’s philosophy of Work and Humanity, urging public servants to put citizens first: “When serving someone, ask yourself, ‘Would I like to be served this way?’ That is the foundation of our work.”

She called on staff to continue working diligently, professionally, and in unity to realize the aspirations of Tanzanians through conservation, natural resources, and tourism. She praised their efforts and encouraged stronger cooperation to achieve ministry goals.

Deputy Minister Hamad Hassan Chande echoed the call, urging officials to recognize the value of citizens: “We are here to join you in nation-building. We are not rulers, but leaders fulfilling the President’s vision—work with humanity and prioritize the people,” he said.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Hassan Abbas pledged full support for the new leadership to advance government objectives, particularly in serving citizens and promoting Tanzania’s tourism attractions.

Earlier, Dr. Kijaji inspected a special guard of honor organized by the Conservation Force (JU), led by Dr. Abbas.
