President Samia appoints Khamis Omar as Finance Minister

President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has appointed Ambassador Khamis Omar as the new Minister of Finance. 

The announcement was made today at State House, Chamwino, in Dodoma. 

The deputy ministers are Laurent Deogratius Luswetula and Mr. Mshamu Ali Munde

The appointment comes at a crucial time as Tanzania seeks to accelerate economic growth, strengthen fiscal management, and implement reforms that enhance public financial management and investment climate. 

Ambassador Omar, a seasoned diplomat and experienced public servant, is expected to bring strategic leadership to the Ministry, ensuring sound economic policies and effective budget execution.

State House sources say the President’s decision reflects a commitment to professional and capable leadership in steering the country’s economic agenda. 

The Finance Ministry will play a central role in managing government revenue, overseeing public spending, and supporting initiatives aimed at improving livelihoods and economic opportunities for Tanzanians.

Observers note that under Ambassador Omar’s leadership, the ministry is expected to continue advancing reforms that promote transparency, accountability, and sustainable growth, in line with the government’s development priorities.
