Arusha Regional Commissioner (RC) CPA Amos Gabriel Makalla has reaffirmed that the Tanzania–Kenya border at Namanga remains safe, stable, and fully operational, assuring traders and travelers that social and economic activities continue without interruption.
RC Makalla made the remarks on Thursday, November 6, 2025, during an inspection visit to assess the security situation and review trade activities at the One-Stop Border Post in Namanga. He was accompanied by members of the Regional Security Committee.
His visit follows directives by President Samia Suluhu Hassan encouraging the continuation of normal community and economic operations across the country after the General Election.
“I want to assure the nation that the Tanzania–Kenya border is peaceful and secure. The Namanga One-Stop Border Post is functioning efficiently,” said Makalla.
“This border is vital for both countries, especially the residents who rely on cross-border trade for their livelihoods. It is therefore important that peace, unity, and cooperation are maintained.”he added
The RC commended officers and border management teams from both Tanzania and Kenya for strengthening collaboration, which he said has contributed to improved service delivery and increased trade volumes between the two sides.
He stressed that any instability at the border would have a direct negative impact on trade and the welfare of border communities, as Namanga serves as a major gateway for the movement of goods between the two economies.
On behalf of the Kenyan authorities, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Manager at Namanga, Mr. Nicholous Mugambi, pledged continued cooperation in supporting trade facilitation and reinforcing strong bilateral relations.
“We will continue working closely with Tanzanian authorities to sustain the good relations that enable business growth,” Mugambi said. “Peace is the foundation for shared prosperity among our people.”
The Namanga border remains one of the busiest trade corridors in East Africa—linking markets, supporting tourism, and fostering cultural and economic ties between Tanzania and Kenya.
