The Director of Kibaha Municipal Council, Dr. Rogers Shemwelekwa, has urged residents to protect and maintain public infrastructure and development projects implemented in their areas to match the government’s fast-paced development agenda.
Dr. Shemwelekwa made the call during an inspection tour of ongoing projects in Mbwawa Ward, where he underscored the importance of community ownership and participation in ensuring the sustainability of government investments.
“It is discouraging to see the government allocate huge amounts of money to development projects, only for residents to neglect them,” he said.
“For example, the Kibaha Municipal Council has invested Sh420 million in road construction projects meant to improve public service delivery, but the main challenge has been the lack of maintenance from residents once the roads are completed.”he added
He emphasized that citizens must recognize that all public projects are financed through their own taxes and therefore bear the responsibility of protecting them for long-term use.
“If we open a new road today, then next year we should add gravel and keep improving it so that we continue moving forward in development,” he said.
Residents of Mbwawa Ward commended Dr. Shemwelekwa for his proactive leadership and close supervision of development activities, noting that his efforts have helped address long-standing community challenges.
They pledged continued cooperation with the municipal authorities to ensure that all projects are completed successfully and bring lasting benefits to the people of Kibaha.
