The government has intensified efforts to expand and modernise universities and mid-level colleges across the country, aiming to widen access to higher education and strengthen the nation’s human capital.
Representing the Minister for Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Elijah Mwandumbya, said the government is implementing major education initiatives designed to boost national productivity.
He delivered the remarks during the 51st Graduation Ceremony of the Institute of Finance Management (IFM), held at the Diamond Jubilee Hall in Dar es Salaam.
Mwandumbya highlighted flagship projects that continue to transform the education sector, noting that government investments are already visible on the ground.
“These initiatives include SHULE BORA, the Teacher Education Support Project (TESP), SEQUIP, the Education and Skills Project (ESP), the Education Programme for Results (EP4R), EASTRIP, and the Higher Education for Economic Transformation Project (HEET), among others,” he said.
According to him, these interventions are part of the broader government strategy to position education as a core engine of economic growth, ensuring that training offered in the country matches the evolving demands of the global economy.
Mwandumbya commended IFM for maintaining high standards of academic delivery, particularly by integrating modern technology to reach a larger and more diverse student population.
“I am pleased to learn that the Institute is preparing to roll out blended learning after completing curriculum improvements. The current era demands strong ICT-driven education systems capable of expanding access and improving the learning experience,” he added.
Earlier, IFM Rector Prof. Josephat Lotto said the institution has been restructuring its academic portfolio to remain responsive to emerging sector needs.
“We have introduced specialized programmes such as Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, and Accounting with Technology to address new challenges in the market,” he said.
Prof. Lotto also announced that IFM is at an advanced stage of establishing postgraduate degree programmes, encouraging graduates to return and further their studies once the new courses are launched.
