Business owners say vandalism set back economic progress

By Our Reporter

Some residents and business owners in Dar es Salaam have said that the destruction of government infrastructure and private businesses following the General Election has caused significant economic setbacks.

Speaking to reporters, they described the vandalism that occurred from voting day as criminal acts carried out by individuals with ill intentions. Several business owners said the damage not only disrupted their daily operations but also reversed the economic progress they had achieved over time.

“The destruction has forced some of us to rebuild from scratch. It is disheartening because we had invested time and resources to grow our businesses, and now we are back to square one,” said one affected entrepreneur.

Others emphasized that such acts harm not only individual business owners but also the wider community, as interruptions in trade and services ripple through local economies.

Authorities and community leaders have called for vigilance, dialogue, and adherence to the law to prevent future incidents, stressing that peace is crucial for economic recovery and stability.
