Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, on Saturday received the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Election Observation Mission (SEOM) at State House in Zanzibar.

The delegation, led by former Malawi Parliament Speaker Richard Msowoya, briefed President Mwinyi on SEOM’s preparations to deploy observers across all constituencies in Zanzibar ahead of the upcoming elections.

During their visit, the SEOM team also held discussions with the Zanzibar Electoral Commission (ZEC) and met representatives from major political parties, including Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and the Civic United Front (CHAUMA), to understand the electoral environment on the islands.

President Mwinyi welcomed the initiative, underlining the importance of credible and transparent elections in strengthening democratic governance in Zanzibar.
