Tanzania’s football giants Young Africans SC (Yanga) suffered a 1–0 defeat to Malawi’s Silver Strikers in the CAF Champions League second-round first-leg match played on Friday, October 18, in Lilongwe, Malawi.
The encounter began at a high tempo, with both teams pressing hard and creating half-chances in the opening minutes. Yanga showed early intent, pushing forward through their attacking trio, but Silver Strikers’ defense stood firm to keep the score level at halftime.
After the break, Yanga returned with more aggression and control, dominating possession and creating several scoring opportunities. However, poor finishing and resilient defending from the hosts denied them a breakthrough.
Silver Strikers eventually punished Yanga in the 76th minute when Andulu Yosefe fired home the only goal of the match, taking full advantage of a defensive mix-up in the visitors’ backline.
Yanga’s attempts to find an equalizer in the closing stages were unsuccessful, as Silver Strikers held on to secure a vital home victory.
The result leaves Yanga with an uphill task ahead of the return leg in Dar es Salaam, where they must win by at least two goals to advance to the next round.
The Tanzanian champions, who reached the CAF Confederation Cup final last season, will now rely on their home crowd and continental experience to overturn the deficit and keep their Champions League hopes alive.
