Tanzania’s football powerhouses, Young Africans (Yanga SC), have booked their place in the group stage of the CAF Champions League (CAFCL) after eliminating Silver Strikers of Malawi in the second preliminary round.
Yanga advanced with a 2–1 aggregate win, following a dominant 2–0 victory in the return leg played on October 25 at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam.
The home side struck early, with defender Dickson Job opening the scoring in the 6th minute, before Ivorian forward Pacome Zouzoua doubled the lead in the 34th minute sealing Yanga’s comeback after a 1–0 defeat in the first leg in Lilongwe.
Following the win, Yanga earned a TSh 10 million “Mama’s Goal” bonus an incentive introduced by President Samia Suluhu Hassan to motivate Tanzanian clubs performing well in international competitions.
Meanwhile, Singida Black Stars made history by qualifying for the CAF Confederation Cup (CAFCC) group stage for the first time.
The team cruised to a 3–1 victory over Flambeau du Centre of Burundi in the return leg at Azam Complex, Chamazi, completing a 4–2 aggregate triumph.
Singida’s goals came from Horso Muaku, Clatous Chama, and Idrissa Diomande, sealing a memorable qualification to the continental group phase.
In recognition of their milestone, Singida Black Stars were awarded a TSh 15 million “Mama’s Goal” bonus for their outstanding international performance.
With both Yanga and Singida Black Stars progressing, Tanzania will now have two representatives competing among Africa’s elite clubs carrying the nation’s hopes in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup respectively.
