Yanga Princess ended their Women’s Community Shield campaign on a high note after cruising to a comfortable 3–0 win over Mashujaa Queens in the third-place playoff held today at the KMC Complex in Dar es Salaam.
The victory earned Yanga Princess a respectable third-place finish in the 2025 edition of the tournament, while Mashujaa Queens settled for fourth.
Under the stewardship of head coach Edna Lema, popularly known as “Mourinho,” Yanga displayed a commanding performance just days after their painful semifinal exit to JKT Queens, who defeated them 6–5 on penalties following a 1–1 draw.
Coach Lema made a few tactical changes for this fixture, starting Ester Emily in goal in place of Zubeda Mgunda, while Adebis Ameerat returned to the midfield ahead of Agnes Pallangyo.
At the back, Protasia Mbunda replaced Wincate Kaari, who missed the match through suspension, and Diana Mnally filled in for Wema Maile, who was unavailable.
Yanga started the game with intent, controlling possession and pressing high through their dynamic wingers.
Their persistence paid off in the 16th minute when Jeanine Mukandayisenga calmly finished a well-timed cross from Precious Christopher, capitalising on confusion in Mashujaa’s defense.
The second half saw Mashujaa Queens attempt a comeback, but Yanga’s backline, anchored by captain Igwe Uzoamaka, remained solid and disciplined.
In the 48th minute, Precious Christopher turned scorer, doubling Yanga’s advantage with a composed strike after a clever assist from Mukandayisenga.
The dominance continued as Aregash Kalsa sealed the win in the 65th minute, finishing off a precise pass from Ameerat inside the box to make it 3–0.
The emphatic result ensured Yanga Princess finished third in the Women’s Community Shield the curtain-raiser for the Tanzania Women’s Premier League (WPL) season.
Meanwhile, the tournament’s final between Simba Queens and JKT Queens was taking place later in the day, with the winner set to be crowned the 2025 Women’s Community Shield champion.
Since the competition’s inception in 2023, Yanga Princess have reached one final last year where they narrowly lost 1–0 to JKT Queens.
