Tanzania will be represented by one athlete at the upcoming World Taekwondo Championships scheduled to take place from Friday to Wednesday next week in Wuxi, China, the Tanzania Taekwondo Federation (TTF) has announced.
According to TTF Acting Secretary General, Monge Kigezo, the country will be represented by athlete Khamis Buda Juma, who will be accompanied by coach David Samson Ntakisigaye.
Kigezo said the federation is finalizing visa arrangements for the duo before their departure for China.
“Tanzania will be represented by one Taekwondo athlete at the upcoming World Taekwondo Championships in China. For now, I cannot say exactly when the athlete and coach will travel, as we are still processing their visas,” he said.
The TTF official noted that both Juma and Ntakisigaye are sponsored by the World Taekwondo Federation (WT). He, however, did not disclose why the country will send only one athlete, despite the initial plan to field two competitors.
Meanwhile, Kigezo revealed that preparations for the 2025 Korea Ambassador Cup are at an advanced stage.
The annual event, sponsored by the Korean Ambassador to Tanzania, is expected to take place at the end of next month in Dar es Salaam, with the venue to be announced later.
The Korea Ambassador Cup has grown into one of the most anticipated Taekwondo tournaments in the country, attracting participants from across Tanzania and neighboring nations.
Taekwondo, a traditional Korean martial art and Olympic sport, emphasizes both physical and moral discipline.
Its five guiding principles are courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control, and indomitable spirit.
