Tanzania open water swimming team heads to Kenya for continental Championship

Tanzania’s national open water swimming team has vowed to deliver a strong performance at the Africa Aquatics Junior and Senior Open Water Championships, which begin on Wednesday in Mombasa, Kenya.

The country will be represented by four swimmers juniors Lorita Borega and Kabeer Ridhiwani, and seniors Rajabu Omari and Adil Abdulrahmaan.

The team is led by coach Geoffrey Kimimba, with Ramadan Namkoveka serving as head of delegation.

Speaking before their departure yesterday, Kimimba expressed confidence that his team is well-prepared despite it being Tanzania’s first appearance at an international open water competition sanctioned by the Africa Swimming Association.

“This is the first time Tanzania is taking part in an international open water championship, but I am confident that we will perform well and make our country proud,” said Kimimba. “All the swimmers have trained hard and are ready for the challenge.”

During the national flag handover ceremony held last week in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA) president David Mwasyrge urged the athletes to give their best and represent the nation with pride.

He reaffirmed TSA’s commitment to supporting swimmers and promoting the sport’s growth across the country.

“The association stands firmly behind our athletes. We want to see them compete with determination and bring home medals,” Mwasyrge said.

At the same event, a senior sports officer from the National Sports Council (NSC) reiterated the government’s commitment to developing all sporting disciplines, including swimming.

“The government is proud of our swimmers and the progress they are making. We urge them to aim for medals because the nation needs to see more Tanzanian swimmers succeed at international level,” the official said.
