The Tanzania Immigration Services Department has confirmed that opposition politician John Wegesa Heche left the country through the Sirari border post in Mara Region without following the required immigration procedures.
In a statement issued on Saturday, October 18, 2025, the Department said Mr Heche crossed into a neighbouring country without adhering to immigration laws and regulations as outlined under Chapter 54 of the Immigration Act.
“The Immigration Department wishes to inform the public that on October 18, 2025, at the Sirari border post in Mara Region, Hon. John Wegesa Heche crossed the border into a neighbouring country without following the required immigration procedures,” the statement reads.
The Department reminded all Tanzanians and foreign nationals entering or leaving the country to comply with immigration rules to avoid violating the law.
“The Department calls upon all citizens and travellers to follow the established entry and exit procedures to prevent committing offenses that may lead to legal action,” the statement added.
The clarification was signed by Paul Mselle, spokesperson for the Immigration Department under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
