Tanzania has presented a strong case for continued support to its agricultural financing agenda, showcasing a decade of achievements by the Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) to the African Development Bank (AfDB) during high-level talks in Washington D.C.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance and Paymaster General, Dr. Natu El-maamry Mwamba, met AfDB Executive Director, Mr. Ronald Justin Cafrine, at the Embassy of Tanzania on the sidelines of the Annual Meetings of the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

During the meeting, Dr. Mwamba handed over the TADB 10 Years Impact Report, outlining the Bank’s contribution to financing agricultural transformation and strengthening the rural economy.

The report details how AfDB’s financial support, amounting to TZS 382 billion between 2021 and 2024, has enabled TADB to expand credit access for smallholder farmers and agribusinesses, thereby stimulating economic growth and food security.

“TADB’s success story reflects the power of strategic partnerships,” Dr. Mwamba said, noting that AfDB’s assistance has been vital in building a more inclusive and resilient agricultural sector.

TADB Managing Director, Mr. Frank Nyabundege, also hailed the partnership, revealing that AfDB has committed an additional USD 60 million in 2026 to strengthen the Bank’s capital base and broaden its outreach.

“The upcoming support will further enhance our lending capacity, allowing us to reach more farmers and accelerate value addition in the agricultural sector,” Mr. Nyabundege said.

AfDB remains one of Tanzania’s key development partners, funding projects that drive agricultural productivity and rural transformation.

The renewed engagement signals growing confidence in Tanzania’s vision for a modern, market-driven agricultural economy.

Dr. Mwamba is leading Tanzania’s delegation to the World Bank and IMF Annual Meetings, where global finance leaders are discussing strategies to bolster economic stability, sustainable growth, and development financing in emerging economies.

The discussions with AfDB, observers say, underscore Tanzania’s commitment to leveraging international partnerships to advance agricultural industrialisation a cornerstone of the country’s economic transformation agenda.
