TANESCO to connect new customers within a day

As part of the ongoing Customer Service Week celebrations, the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO) has announced a special initiative that will enable new customers to be connected to electricity within just one day.

Speaking at the event held at Mwembe Yanga grounds in Dar es Salaam, TANESCO representative Ms. Gowelle said the initiative, known as “TANESCO Mtaani Kwako”, is designed to serve residents of the Dar es Salaam Region.

According to her, key staff from various departments of the utility have set up a temporary service camp at the venue for three days starting October 8. 

Whilst the campaign offers a wide range of services and information to customers, it aims to bring services closer to the people.

On the other hand, Ms. Gowelle hinted that on Thursday, October 9, TANESCO will launch a special programme to connect new customers to electricity while providing them with electric stoves on credit. 

Customers opting for the stoves will be able to repay gradually through their electricity purchases under flexible contracts ranging from six months to one year.

The initiative is part of a broader TANESCO project supported by the Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) programme, which has sponsored an initial batch of 1,000 new electric stoves for pilot testing.

“We chose to celebrate Customer Service Week by taking our services directly to the community. Through TANESCO Mtaani Kwako, we are offering residents a unique opportunity to learn more about our operations and access key services without having to visit our offices,” said Ms. Gowelle.

She added that visitors at the venue will also witness live demonstrations of various dishes being prepared using energy-efficient electric stoves and receive education on safe and efficient electricity usage, infrastructure protection, and the ongoing national inspection of electricity meters.

Ms. Gowelle invited Dar es Salaam residents to attend the official launch ceremony scheduled for October 9, 2025, at Mwembe Yanga grounds, where Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila will officiate as the Guest of Honour.

This year’s Customer Service Week is being commemorated under the theme: “The Plan Made Possible,” reflecting TANESCO’s commitment to service excellence, innovation, and efficiency in delivering reliable electricity to Tanzanians.
